Qatar Airways has abandoned its plan to buy up to 10% of American Airlines, the world’s largest airline. And that is good news.

According to USA Today, Qatar Airways said the acquisition “no longer meets our objectives.”

But, the statement continued, “Qatar Airways will continue to investigate alternative investment opportunities in the United States of America and elsewhere that do meet our objectives.”

American Airlines – and all Americans – should be relieved that Qatar Airways backed out of the deal. With the state-owned airline bringing in money to a state that harbors and funds terrorists and extremists, the fewer the financial connections between the United States and Qatar, the better.

The second part of the statement – “Qatar Airways will continue to investigate alternative investment opportunities in the United States of America” – should give people cause for concern. Future efforts by Qatar to find new sources of American money to fund their illicit activities must be met with resistance.

Such resistance will send a clear signal to Qatar that people are noticing its behavior and won’t stand for it. Maybe then Qatar will realize it needs to change its ways.
